California has some pretty strict insurance requirements.  California Insurance Code 11580.1b stipulates that all drivers must carry at least $15,000 in liability coverage for injury and/or death to one person, at least $30,000 for injury/death coverage to more than one person, and a minimum of $5,000 for property damage caused by a driver.  In reality, most drivers in California carry much better insurance liability limits than these minimums.  Better safe than sorry.
